Solo mining means competing to find a block entirely on your own, instead of pooling your hashrate with others and splitting the reward proportionally. Your odds of finding a block in any given attempt are simply your hashrate divided by the total network hashrate — if you control 0.001% of the network's hashing power, you have roughly a 0.001% chance each time a block is found somewhere on the network.
Because blocks are found at fairly predictable intervals (each coin targets a specific average block time), we can turn that per-block probability into a probability over a time period — an hour, a day, a year — by accounting for how many blocks are expected to be mined network-wide in that window. That's what the results table above shows: your rolling chance of hitting a block across different timeframes, given your current hashrate.
This is genuine probability, not a guarantee or a countdown. Mining is a random process — you could find a block in your first minute, or never find one at the hashrate you're running. Network hashrate and difficulty also shift over time (sometimes sharply, e.g. after a halving or a major miner coming online/offline), which is why we pull live network data on every calculation rather than using a fixed estimate.
Is solo mining worth it?
Depends entirely on your hashrate relative to the network and your risk tolerance. Pool mining gives you small, steady, predictable payouts proportional to your share. Solo mining gives you a lottery-ticket outcome — usually nothing, occasionally the entire block reward. Miners with small hashrate (a Bitaxe, a few old ASICs) are choosing volatility over steady income; that's a legitimate choice, not a mistake, as long as you understand the odds going in.
What do KH/s, MH/s, GH/s, TH/s, PH/s, EH/s mean?
They're all hashes per second, scaled by powers of 1000: 1 MH/s = 1,000 KH/s, 1 GH/s = 1,000 MH/s, 1 TH/s = 1,000 GH/s, and so on up through PH/s and EH/s. Pick whichever unit matches what your mining hardware reports — the calculator converts internally.
Why did my odds change since yesterday, even though my hashrate didn't?
Network hashrate and difficulty aren't fixed — they move with how much total hashing power is pointed at the coin at any given moment. As other miners join or leave, your relative share (and therefore your chance) shifts too. We fetch live network data on every calculation so the numbers reflect the current state, not a stale snapshot.
Solo mining vs. pool mining — what's the actual tradeoff?
Pools smooth out variance by combining many miners' hashrate and paying out shares based on contributed work, so income is small but steady. Solo mining keeps 100% of any block you find, but you might go months (or years, at small hashrate) without finding one at all. Some newer "hybrid" pools — like the top-100 or share-pooled models covered on our Curated Pools page — sit in between, spreading solo-style rewards across a small group instead of one winner or the whole network.
Which of the 19 supported coins should I mine solo?
There's no universal answer — it depends on your hardware's algorithm (SHA-256 for BTC/BCH/BSV/XEC/DGB/ AUR/LCC, Scrypt for LTC/DOGE, RandomX for XMR, etc.), the coin's current network hashrate (lower network hashrate means better solo odds for the same personal hashrate), and whether you're mining for the coin itself or purely for the chance at a payout.
