- FEE — ranges from 0% (self-hosted options like publicpool.io) to ~1.5% (atlaspool.io's global Anycast infrastructure). Lower isn't automatically better if it costs you uptime or latency.
- PAYOUT SCHEME — strict solo (finder takes all, e.g. ckpool.org), proportional-since-last-block (parasite.space, bch.ee), or share-leaderboard hybrids (solo100.org). Pick based on whether you want pure lottery odds or smoothed-out volatility.
- LATENCY — matters more than people expect for small miners; a pool with regional/Anycast routing (atlaspool.io) reduces rejected shares versus a single distant server.
- SELF-HOSTING — if you want full sovereignty over your node and payouts, publicpool.io is open-source and self-hostable rather than only available as a hosted service.
